Travelling to St Julien le Petit

We have made our travel plans to get to the rally at St Julien Le Petit, at present 6 of us are planning to make the trip,
My self, Tiny Tim, Smokey Bill, Squeaky Eades, Roger Merivale, and a new member Dr Geoffrey Kolbe, who has the longest trip from the Scottish Borders on one of my Royal Enfield Diesel conversions, with his own mke trailer.

The ferry has been booked from Portsmouth - Cherbourg arriving 17.15, and we are then camping just outside at Anse de Bric, about 20 mins drive from ferry.
Tuesday we are sight seeing down the Cherbourg Peninsula, D D beaches etc and some of the remains of the batteries that are left.
Tuesday night we are planning to camp just south of St Lo
Wednesday head for the rally, not sure if we will arrive Wednesday night or Thursday, no strict plan is in place for this yet, just depends on how the traveling goes.

The ferry is booked to return from Quisterham-Portsmouth on Monday night leaving 11.00 pm.

We are all looking forward to meeting you all again, and if any one would like to join us on our travel down or meet us at a campsite for a glass of wine or 2 or 3 or show us some local sites of interest please join us so we can repay some of your hospitality

Hi Henry,
Going to the Anse brick, just may a stay in "the "Becquet", a little but special made harbour. And I guess you're going down to St-Lo by the coast : Barfleur, St-Vaast, Réville, Utah-Beach (St-Côme du Mont), Sainte-Mère l'Eglise (with its famous hanging parachutist). Very nice trip, Cotentin is a beautiful country !!

"Nous avons organisé notre voyage pour rejoindre le rassemblement de St Julien le Petit. Pour l'instant six d'entre nous ont prévu de faire le voyage.
Moi-même, Tiny Tim, Smokey Bill, Squeaky Eades, Roger Merivale, et un nouveau membre Dr Geoffrey Kolbe, qui aura le plus long trajet depuis la frontière Ecossaise sur une de mes conversion diesel Royal Enfield, et une remorque de sa fabrication.
Le ferry est réservé depuis Portsmouth, avec une arrivée à Cherbourg à 17h15. Nous allons camper près d'Anse du Bric, à environ 20 mn de route du ferry.
Mardi nous visiterons la presqu'île du Cotentin en descendant de Cherbourg vers les plages du débarquement, ainsi que la visite de quelques batteries*.
Mardi soir nous prévoyons de camper au sud de St Lo.
Mercredi direction le rassemblement, nous ne savons pas si nous arriverons le mercredi soir ou le jeudi, il n'y a pas encore de plan précis pour ce point. Cela dépendra de comment se déroulera le voyage.

Le ferry de retour est réserve via Quisterham-Portsmouth le lundi soir, avec un départ à 23h00.

Nous espérons vous rencontrer tous de nouveau, et si quelqu'un souhaite se joindre à nous pour descendre au rassemblement ou venir nous rendre visite au camping pour partager un verre de vin, ou 2 ou 3, ou bien nous faire visiter quelques sites d'intérêt dans le secteur, joignez-vous à nous, ainsi nous pourrons vous rendre l'hospitalité.

* Henry s'intéresse au "D Day", ainsi qu'aux choses ayant trait au débarquement et à cette période.
Il porte un intérêt tout particulier aux constructions de défense qui avaient été installées le long de notre côte.
Donc, si vous connaissez des "blockhaus" qui subsistent, des sites particulièrement dignes d'intérêt et qui éventuellement se visitent, vous pouvez le signaler ici (même en français).
Ca lui fera plaisir d'avoir des suggestions, conseils et idées de visite.

Colleville sur mer (Cimetière US), et la pointe du hoc (a ne pas manquer) avec un petit tour sur Port en Bessin et pousser même sur Aromanche (son port artificiel et ses batteries). Tout ça, c'est dans le même quartier. Je connais tout ça par coeur, c'est le pays de ma jeunesse.

There are a couple of logistiacl problems about bringing quality English beers to France on a motorbike,

The best English beers come in "cask conditioned " barrels of about 8 gallons approx 36 litres, these are then stored on their side before being "tapped" and the precious fluid is then drawn off and drunk in pint glasses, the main problem with that is every time they are moved, the lees or sediments in the barrel are disturbed and cause the beer to go cloudy. it then has to be sored on it side again for a few days to clear.

That is the first problem.

The second equally important problem to the export of quality English beer by 6 motorcyclists. is the thirst which is gained by riding through the hot French sun, and when camped for the evening, a barrel of beer appears, what chance is there of the beer going anywhere, or the bikers come to that.

But we will be there, and we are all looking forward to the visit.

that is French "hospitalité" ...

if one time you go to the Beer festival in Munchen you will not come with your beverage .... of course !!

The hospitality and the welcome we have always recieved has been superb, we have never been thirsty, or hungry, wet yes, hot yes, but feeling left out or not welcome never.

It is a pleasure conversing(or trying to converse) with people who are thinking on the same lines as yourself, discussing the problems that come and get you for driving a motorcyle which has had a 60 year production,

These are a few of the reasons that I enjoy driving my Royal Enfield through France, taking away nothing from the English beers, food & cheeses, one of the pleasures is after a days ride, sat at your camp, you can get superb local wine & cheese where ever you are.

One of my mottos in life is:- Drink what the locals drink, eat what the locals eat, that way you can end up as bad tempered, equally ugly, and as hungover as the rest of them, then you will fit in even better, The other main advantage after a few local tasters, my French improves, and all around understand and can see how fluent I have become.

Tuesday explore the local sites and head for St Lo for the night.

Wednesday as follows, we will be staying aound Loudun or Poitiers on Wednesday night and then head to rally on Thursday
